Hand saw usage tips: How to use a hand saw correctly?

1.Wear personal protective equipment: Before using a hand saw, be sure to wear personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, gloves, and ear plugs (if necessary) to avoid wood chips flying into your eyes, hands, and hearing.

2.When using a hand saw, you usually hold the saw handle with your right hand and the front of the saw bow with your left hand. Since the saw is installed with the teeth facing forward and the hand grip part facing backward, there is no up or down distinction, because you cannot be sure whether you are leaning over or lying on your back when working.

①When installing the saw blade, the tip of the tooth should face the forward push direction. The tension of the saw blade should be appropriate. If it is too tight, it is easy to break during use; if it is too loose, it is easy to twist and swing during use, making the saw seam crooked and the saw blade easy to break.

②When using a hand saw, generally hold the saw handle with the right hand and hold the front of the saw bow with the left hand. Due to the different structures of the saw handle, there are two ways to hold the saw handle with the right hand. When pushing the saw, the upper part of the body leans forward slightly, giving the hand saw moderate pressure to complete the sawing; when pulling the saw, the hand saw is slightly lifted, and no sawing is performed, which also reduces the damage to the saw teeth.

③Whether the sawing method is correct will directly affect the sawing quality. The sawing can be started from the far edge or the near edge. When starting the sawing, the angle between the saw blade and the workpiece is about 10°~15°, and the angle should not be too large. The reciprocating speed of sawing is preferably 20~40 times/min, and the working length of the saw blade should generally not be less than 2/3 of the length of the saw blade.

④When sawing bars, you can saw from the beginning to the end. When sawing a hollow pipe, you cannot saw from the beginning to the end at once. You should stop when you reach the inner wall of the pipe, turn the pipe to a certain angle in the direction of the push saw, and then continue sawing in this way until the sawing is finished.
